Many people find meditation, as a practice of cultivating mindful awareness, insight, concentration, and calm, to be useful in a variety of ways.
The following meditation groups are all, broadly speaking, mindfulness meditation, and are open to anyone, although each is in one way or another Buddhist or Buddhist-inspired.
Insight Meditation of Cleveland
Insight Meditation of Cleveland includes a number of groups which meet at different locations around the Greater Cleveland area. These are focused on vipassana, or insight meditation. In practice this seems to mean mindfulness meditation more generally.
Insight Meditation of Cleveland also offers information about and organizes various programs and retreats.
Cleveland Shambhala Meditation Center
The Cleveland Shambhala Meditation Center offers regular open meditation sessions at different times and days, as well as meditation instruction, periodic retreats, and some other programs. The type of meditation at the open meditation sessions is generally shamatha meditation (sometimes translated as “calm,” sometimes as “concentration”). Most of the meditation takes place on the west side of Greater Cleveland (in Lakewood), but there is also a group which meets on the east side.
The Cloudwater Zendo offers Zen meditation and instruction on a weekly basis, and is located in the southwestern part of Cleveland.
